A family house by the name Haus W is a project of a London based architectonic office Kraus Schönberg Architects. Haus W is a private, low-energy dwelling for a young family in Hamburg, Germany. Economically sound, prefabricated house is composed of two parts – the upper and the lower level. The architects attempted to interconnect the interior spaces and secure an intensive contact with the garden by having almost the whole lower level section of the facade transparent.
The house is situated on a grassy plot of land, surrounded by lush vegetation of trees. It creates a simple orthogonal volume, which thanks to a multiple of square windows of various sizes gains a playful, dynamic appeal. The programs are pragmatically arranged between two levels. The communal spaces are situated on the lower level, while the upper one creates spaces for bedrooms, bathromms and childrens’ area.
